Add an article

Overview

This page covers creating a single article. An article is any product you buy, produce, import, or trade, and it is the record that decides whether a product is in EUDR scope. After you create it, you confirm its EUDR relevance on the EUDR tab (see Set EUDR relevance for an article).

If you have many articles to add, use the bulk upload instead (see Bulk upload articles).

Before you start

• A role with permission to manage master data.
• The article's CN code. If you do not know it, use the CN Code Classifier to find it from a product description (documented separately), then set it here.
• A unique reference number for the article, ideally the one from your own system.
• For products you buy in pieces, the net weight of one piece excluding packaging, in kg or t.

🟢 Why this matters. The CN code you give an article is what decides whether the EUDR can apply to it. Only articles whose CN code is listed in Annex I can be EUDR-relevant, so getting the code right is essential. The net weight per piece matters for the same statement later on: purchase orders count pieces, while a Due Diligence Statement needs net mass in kilograms, and this value is what lets kolum convert between the two.

Step by step

1. Open the create form.

Go to Master Data > Articles and select Add New. The Create new article page opens.

2. Enter the article details.

Complete the fields:

• Reference Number: a unique reference for the article.
• Name: a human-readable product name.
• CN Code: select the Combined Nomenclature code. When the EUDR module is selected, the list is scoped to the Annex I codes.
• Description: optional detail such as grade or dimensions.
• Net weight per piece and Measurement Unit (Units & weight): the full net weight of one unit of the article, excluding packaging, entered as a quantity with its unit (kg or t). Fill in both or leave both empty; a half-filled pair cannot be saved and the form names the missing half. Switching the unit converts the value you typed (25 kg becomes 0.025 t).

3. Create the article.

Select Create article. The article appears in the Articles list and opens on its detail page.

After you create the article

Open the article and go to the EUDR tab to confirm or exclude its relevance:

• If the CN code is in Annex I, the article is treated as EUDR-relevant by default.
• You can still exclude it if it is not genuinely made of, containing, or derived from a regulated commodity.

Tips

• Reuse your existing product reference numbers so imports and orders reconcile cleanly.
• If several products share one CN code, keep the names distinct so the Articles list stays readable.
• Record the net weight per piece for every EUDR-relevant article you order in pieces; you can add it later on the General tab, but having it from the start avoids gaps when a Due Diligence Statement is prepared.

Troubleshooting

• I cannot find the CN code in the list. Confirm the active module. Under EUDR the list is scoped to Annex I codes; a CBAM-only code will not appear there.
• The article did not save. Reference Number, Name, and CN Code are all required, and the net weight per piece must be given together with its unit or not at all.

What's new

The article form now has a Units & weight area where you can record the net weight of one piece with its unit (kg or t). It is optional, converts when you switch the unit, and lets kolum turn piece counts into the net mass a Due Diligence Statement needs.
