CBAM Costs

The CBAM Costs card shows what the CBAM certificates for the selected period are predicted to cost you, broken down by company over time, and makes the basis of that figure visible so finance and procurement can trust and reuse it.

What the card shows

  • Predicted carbon costs for the selected period, shown as total costs by company over time. Each company is one series in the chart; the legend below the chart lists the companies shown.
  • The total at the top right, with the certificate price it is based on directly underneath (for example "Total @ €75.28/CBAM-Certificate").
  • A chart type selector to switch between a Bar Chart and a Line Chart.
  • The time axis follows the selected period: a quarter is broken down by month, so you can see how the cost develops over the period.

How the figure is calculated

  1. kolum takes the imports that match the filter bar in the selected period.
  2. For each import it determines the embedded emissions, either from EU default values (Emission Data filter set to Default) or from the actual data your suppliers have provided where it exists (set to Actual & Default).
  3. Free allocation reported by your suppliers (Specific Embedded Free Allocation) is deducted from the emissions that require certificates.
  4. The resulting certificates are multiplied by the certificate price selected in the filter bar: the published CBAM Price, or your own Custom Price.

What is excluded

  • Imports with CN codes outside the CBAM scope.
  • Imports you have deselected in the filter bar, for example a company or an import type.

Tips

  • Read CBAM Costs together with the CBAM Cost Forecast: CBAM Costs is your near-term figure for the selected period, the forecast shows the multi-year trend to 2034.
  • Switch the Emission Data filter to Actual & Default to see how much collected supplier data lowers your predicted costs.
  • Use Custom Price to model a higher or lower certificate price; the total and every bar follow it immediately.
  • For a per-supplier or per-article view of costs, switch Top 10 Contributors to the CBAM Costs metric, or use the Sourcing section.
