Add New Production Facility
Overview
Production facilities are the physical locations where your organisation's goods are produced and packed. Adding them in kolum keeps your master data complete and gives your company records operational context: which entity produces where, and which sites are behind the packaged products you place on the market.
Facilities always belong to a company, so you manage them directly on that company's record, in the Associations tab of the company detail page. There is no separate Production Facilities page in the sidebar.
Before you start
- The facility's name and address, or confirmation that it uses the company address.
- The company the facility belongs to must already exist in kolum, because you add the facility from that company's page.
🟢 Why this matters. Under PPWR, the manufacturer role follows from where and under whose name products are manufactured and packed. A clear facility structure documents which legal entity stands behind which site, which supports the applicability answers you give per company. See Regulation (EU) 2025/40.
Step by step
- Open the company. Go to Companies in the sidebar and click the company the facility belongs to.
- Open the Associations tab. The Production Facilities block lists the facilities already linked to this company. If there are none yet, the block shows an empty state.
- Click Add New in the Production Facilities block.
- Enter facility details.
- Name. A clear, recognisable name, for example "Berlin Plant 1".
- The Company is pre-set to the company you started from.
- Enter address details. Either check Use company address if the facility shares the company's address (the address fields lock and follow the company's address automatically), or enter the address manually:
- Street name and number (optional)
- PO Box (optional)
- City (mandatory)
- Postal code (optional)
- Country (mandatory, select from the dropdown)
- UN/LOCODE (optional)
- Latitude and longitude (optional, for precise mapping)
- Create the facility. Click Create Production Facility. You return to the company's Associations tab, where the new facility appears in the Production Facilities block.
Field reference
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | Recognisable site name. |
| Company | Yes | The legal entity the site belongs to; set by the company you add it from. |
| Use company address | Optional | Locks the address fields and keeps them in sync with the company address. |
| City, Country | Yes (manual address) | Country as a two-letter ISO code in uploads. |
| Street, Number, Postal Code, PO Box | Optional | Completes the address. |
| UN/LOCODE, Latitude, Longitude | Optional | For precise location data. |
After you add a facility
- The facility is linked to its company and visible in the company's Associations tab and across modules that share master data.
- Click the facility to open its detail page, where you can edit its name, details and address in place or delete it.
- Your company records now document where production happens, which helps when you answer activity questions in the PPWR applicability check.
Tips
- Name facilities by site and city so multi-site organisations stay readable.
- Keep the company link accurate; it is what ties a site's output to the legal entity that carries the obligations.
- To add many facilities at once, use Upload Company Production Facilities on the Companies page instead.
ℹ️ Regulatory context. PPWR obligations attach to the legal entity, not the site, but who manufactures what, where, and under whose name decides the manufacturer role (Article 3, Chapter IV). Facility records document exactly that. See Regulation (EU) 2025/40.
