Add New Company

Overview

Each company you add in kolum represents a legal entity within your organisation. For PPWR, the company is the unit everything else hangs on: the applicability check runs per company, and the resulting roles and obligations belong to that legal entity. This page shows you how to add a company and which fields matter.

Before you start

  • Have the company's legal name and registered address at hand.
  • For EU-based companies, have the EORI number available if the entity also uses customs-related modules such as CBAM; for PPWR alone it is not the deciding identifier, but complete master data keeps your modules consistent.
  • Know which packaged products the entity places on the EU market. You will need this for the applicability check right after.

🟢 Why this matters. PPWR roles are defined per legal entity: the same organisation can be a manufacturer through one entity and an importer through another, and each entity carries its own registration and EPR duties per member state. Getting the entity list right is the first compliance step. See Regulation (EU) 2025/40.

Step by step

  1. Navigate to Companies. Go to Master Data, then Companies, and click Add New in the top right corner.
  2. Enter company details. Fill in the required fields:
    • Name. The company's legal name as it should appear in your records.
    • Identifier. kolum assigns a Company Identifier (format COM-n) automatically, or you can supply your own. It is the stable key used across lists and bulk uploads.
    • EORI Number (optional). Relevant for EU-based entities that also work in customs-related modules. Each EORI must be unique within your account.
    • Business Partner Number (optional). The Catena-X BPN, if your organisation uses it.
  3. Add address details. City and country anchor the record; street name and number, postal code, and PO Box complete it. The countries a company operates in matter under PPWR, because registration and EPR run per member state.
  1. Create the company. Click Create Company. The company appears in your Companies list.
  2. Run the PPWR applicability check. Open the Applicability section of the PPWR module and check the new company, so its roles and obligations become visible. Until you do, the company shows as Not checked.

  • The company is available across kolum modules that share master data.
  • Run the PPWR applicability check so obligations become visible.
  • Link production facilities to give the record operational context.

Tips

  • Use consistent naming so multi-entity workspaces stay easy to navigate.
  • Add every entity that places packaged products on the market, including entities that only sell own-brand goods produced by partners. Under PPWR, own-brand selling can make an entity the manufacturer.

ℹ️ Regulatory context. The economic-operator roles that attach to a legal entity are defined in Article 3 of the regulation, with the operator obligations in Chapter IV and registration and EPR in Chapter VIII (Articles 44 and 45). See Regulation (EU) 2025/40.
