Add New Article

Adding a new article in kolum helps you systematically manage purchased or produced goods across your supply chain and imports while maintaining accurate records for your organisation. Articles act as anchors within kolum, allowing you to track production and purchase data and manage emissions data consistently across your workflows. Company and supplier connections are derived automatically from your transactional data (such as imports), so you no longer link suppliers manually when creating an article. Suppliers connected to an article through your imports will see the article on their side within kolum and can provide emissions data for it, helping you collect verified data directly from suppliers to keep your records up to date.

How to Add a New Article

  1. Go to Articles from the sidebar.
  2. Click Add New at the top-right of the Articles page.
  3. Fill in the create form, which is grouped into the same sections as the article detail page:

General:

  • Name (mandatory): The name of your article.
  • Description (optional): Additional information about the article.
  • Reference Number (optional): The identifier kolum uses to link imports and emission data to this article. Leave it empty and kolum generates one automatically. If you enter a Reference Number that already exists in your account, saving is rejected with a clear error.
  • CN Code (mandatory): The customs classification for your article.
  • Net weight per piece and Measurement Unit (optional, Units & weight): The full net weight of one unit of the article, excluding packaging, entered as a quantity with its unit (kg or t). Fill in both halves or leave both empty: a half-filled pair cannot be saved, and the form tells you which half is missing. Switching the unit converts the value you have typed (25 kg becomes 0.025 t) rather than reinterpreting it. Recording it lets kolum convert quantities counted in pieces, for example on purchase orders, into net mass for EUDR Due Diligence Statements.

CBAM:

  • Precursor CN Code is CBAM-relevant (optional): Flag the article's precursor as CBAM-relevant. If the article's own CN Code is not in CBAM scope, setting this flag brings the article into CBAM scope; if the own CN Code is already in scope, the flag is captured for documentation.

EUDR

  • Is EUDR-Relevant (Yes/No): Available only when the CN Code is in EUDR scope; it defaults to Yes for in-scope codes and is disabled with explanatory copy otherwise.
  1. Click Create Article to save.

Important to Note

  • There is no Purchased/Produced type to choose; all articles are created the same way.
  • Connected Companies and Connected Suppliers appear automatically in the article's Associations section once transactional data (for example imports) links them; they are not set manually and cannot be added or removed on the article.
  • Reference Numbers must be unique within your account.
  • The net weight per piece is optional for every article and never blocks saving. A new article starts with it unset, which is shown differently from a value of 0 kg.
  • Suppliers connected to an article through your imports will see the article on their side in kolum and can provide emissions data if needed.

After Adding

  • Your article will appear in the Articles list.
  • You can edit the article at any time, section by section, from its detail page.
  • Production details and emission data are managed from the CBAM section of the article's detail page and through the Emission Data workflows.

What's new

The article form now has a Units & weight area where you can record the net weight of one piece with its unit (kg or t). It stays optional, converts when you switch the unit, and lets kolum turn piece counts into net mass for EUDR.
