Overview

A single place for the terms you will meet across the EUDR documentation. Definitions are written in plain language, in the sense they carry inside kolum.

Term	What it means
Operator	A company that places a relevant product on the EU market for the first time, or exports it. Carries the full due diligence obligation.
Trader	A company that makes a relevant product available further down the chain, without being the first to place it on the market.
Relevant product	A commodity, or a product derived from one, whose CN code is listed in Annex I of the regulation.
Due diligence	The three-part process of collecting information, assessing risk, and mitigating risk before a product is placed on the market.
Due Diligence Statement (DDS)	The formal declaration, submitted to the EU system before placing a product on the market, confirming that due diligence was done and the risk is negligible. Identified by a reference number.
Deforestation-free	Produced on land that was not subject to deforestation after 31 December 2020 (and, for wood, with no forest degradation after that date).
Geolocation	The coordinates of the plots of land where the commodity was produced. Required for every relevant product.
Plot of land	A single area of land, within one country, where the relevant commodity was produced.
TRACES	The EU information system through which Due Diligence Statements are submitted and reference numbers are issued.
Country benchmarking	The classification of countries of production as low, standard, or high risk, which sets how much scrutiny a product needs.
CN code	The Combined Nomenclature customs code of a product. If it appears in Annex I, the product can be EUDR-relevant.
Net weight per piece	The net weight of one unit of an article, excluding packaging, recorded on the article with its unit (kg or t). kolum uses it to convert quantities counted in pieces into the net mass a Due Diligence Statement requires.
Supplier	In kolum, an external company you buy from, managed in the Suppliers section. One supplier record serves CBAM and EUDR; its EUDR tab holds the production locations and compliance documents behind your due diligence. Earlier versions called this record a business partner.
